A Little More About Elder Orphan Care
Elder Orphan Care (EOC) provides help and hope for older adults who are aging without adequate support, both in Romania, where EOC was birthed, and in North Carolina, where they are based. In Romania, they partner with pastors to share God’s love while helping provide shelter, medical care, nutrition, and other needs, including purposeful activities for over 500 people who are elder orphans.
In North Carolina, they serve adults aged sixty and older who wish to remain in their homes but are at risk of losing that ability due to safety concerns, poverty, or lack of support.
- Through their “Safe and Loved at Home” and “Pantry and More” programs, they provide friendship, socialization, occupational therapy-based assessments, purposeful activities, and minor home modifications, as well as assistance with groceries and other necessities. They currently have fifty-two clients in Cabarrus and Rowan counties and twenty-two individuals on their ever-growing waiting list.
They have partnerships with local churches, clubs, businesses, and organizations such as Cooperative Christian Ministry (CCM), Community Paramedics, and Meals on Wheels Rowan, to help accomplish their vision. They are grateful for their staff, interns and fieldwork students from area colleges and universities, as well as a host of volunteers, ages 2 to 92!
If you are interested in volunteering, there are multiple opportunities available, including:
- Grocery shopping and delivery
- Assistance with food drives
- Minor home modifications and yard work
- Help with celebrations, gatherings and outings
- Donation of handmade winter wear hats and scarves and specialty items
- Assistance with annual holiday programs such as Easter Caroling and Christmas Stockings of Joy
