Bart Roberts and Ford Craven, who crossed paths over six years ago through a home brewers society, co-founded the brewery. Their venture was inspired by a mutual love for exceptional beer and a shared dream to introduce their vision to the Concord community. Not long after, Jake Allen became a vital part of the team, and in 2019, Southern Strain Brewing Company officially opened its doors.

As Southern Strain gears up to celebrate its fourth anniversary this weekend, there’s unmistakable excitement in the air with entertainment planned for September 8th and 9th.
🎶 Kicking off the festivities on Friday night is none other than Doc and the Doses, a local favorite who will be playing live on the patio beginning at 7pm.
🏃 Saturday morning starts with a bang at 9am sharp! Lace up your sneakers and get ready to hit the pavement for the second annual Run for the Pils 5k, in partnership with Run Cabarrus. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking to enjoy a leisurely jog, this event is the perfect way to start your day on the right foot. After all, what better way to earn those extra beer calories than by sweating them out in the morning sun?
🍺 The fun continues Saturday afternoon with food specials from the kitchen, exclusive beer releases, and new limited merch releases, including a DIY reverse tie-dye anniversary shirt! And what’s a celebration without a little friendly competition? Join them for “Strain Style Trivia” – a chance to flex your knowledge and maybe even win some awesome prizes!
🎸 Liam Pendergrass will be performing in the taproom from 4-7pm. Enjoy the live performance while you sip on your favorite Southern Strain brew or try a new release!
🍳 After a whirlwind weekend, Southern Strain is ending things on a soothing note. Enjoy a relaxing Sunday brunch accompanied by live jazz music from 11am-2pm. Indulge in a meal that combines Southern Strain’s passion for exceptional beers and great food.
- Partnering with Chef Michael Bowling, their kitchen – known as Hot Box Next Level Kitchen – delivers flavors that perfectly complement their beers. From classic wings to innovative dishes like the Classic Risotto with Roasted Red Pepper Aioli, the food menu is a journey in itself.

Southern Strain’s commitment to its craft shines through in its beer selection. Take, for instance, the O.K. Lunch, a brew that tips its hat to history, harkening back to a 1940s Downtown Concord bar where enjoying a lager with your midday meal was the norm. This pilsner, known for its crystal clarity and lightness, is meticulously brewed with a keen attention to detail.
On the flip side, they have the Hop Helix IPA, a tribute to their iconic logo. It delivers a West Coast-style IPA experience, expertly crafted with a medley of Amarillo, Centennial, Simcoe, and El Dorado hops.
