August 17th is National Nonprofit Day, So We’re Highlighting the New Nonprofit Center Located in Downtown Concord.

National Nonprofit Day is celebrated annually on August 17th and serves as a reminder of the impactful contributions that nonprofit organizations make, fostering positive change and addressing the challenges that our communities face.

Recently, the City of Concord opened the Downtown Concord Nonprofit Center on the lowest level of the former City Annex building, located at the corner of Barbrick Avenue and Union Street.

In an effort to support local nonprofit organizations, the City of Concord has taken a step towards fostering community growth and development. This initiative is a reflection of the city’s commitment to providing affordable office spaces for nonprofits, enabling them to direct their resources towards delivering essential services to the community. It also showcases the power of collaboration between public and nonprofit sectors.

  • Paige Grochoske, Downtown Development Manager, explains, “The city continues to lease the lower level of the building and sublease to nonprofit tenants as a way to provide reduced rent so they can use their resources to provide services for the community.”

The City aims to provide ample opportunities for smaller and newer nonprofits to establish their presence by initially limiting the number of office spaces per applicant.

  • Concord City Manager Lloyd Payne emphasizes the importance of this collaboration, stating, “They are vital to delivering services and goods to our citizens and, as such, deserve an affordable office space for their administrative functions.”

By offering an environment conducive to growth and collaboration, the City of Concord is taking a significant stride towards empowering nonprofits to maximize their impact.

The new nonprofit center features a range of office spaces designed to accommodate the diverse needs of nonprofit organizations. These spaces come with all-inclusive lease rates, covering utilities and Wi-Fi costs, alleviating financial burdens for these organizations.

  • Renovations have transformed the center into a comfortable and modern space, equipped with new HVAC systems, carpeting, paint, wiring, and lighting.

Additionally, occupants will have access to a new elevator and a common conference room, encouraging interaction and idea-sharing among the various nonprofits housed within the center.

Interested nonprofits are encouraged to apply for available spaces, with priority given to Concord-based and Cabarrus County-based organizations. The city aims to provide ample opportunities for smaller and newer nonprofits to establish their presence by initially limiting the number of office spaces per applicant. This approach fosters an environment where nonprofits, regardless of their size, can grow and thrive within a supportive community.

The current list of Downtown Concord Nonprofits showcases the diversity of causes and missions that these organizations champion. While not all are located within the nonprofit center, each of these organizations are located in Downtown Concord, and play a vital role in making a positive difference in the community. These local nonprofits include:

As we celebrate National Nonprofit Day, it’s important to learn about the ways we can contribute to the success of our local nonprofits. Here are a few ideas:

Volunteer: Nonprofits often rely on volunteers to carry out their missions. Whether it’s dedicating time to organize events, mentor, or provide administrative support, your skills and time can make a significant impact.

Donate: Financial contributions go a long way in helping nonprofits fulfill their goals. Consider making regular donations to causes you care about.

Spread Awareness: Use your voice to raise awareness about nonprofit organizations. Share their stories and accomplishments on social media platforms to help increase their reach.

Collaborate: If you’re a business owner or part of an organization, consider collaborating with nonprofits on projects or events. This can help amplify their impact and reach.

Advocate: Support policies and initiatives that align with nonprofit causes. Advocacy can drive positive change on a larger scale.

As we celebrate National Nonprofit Day, let’s not only appreciate the efforts of these organizations but also take inspired actions to support them. The Concord Nonprofit Center is a great example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to uplift one another.
