A strong partnership has endured in our community between the Junior Charity League (JCL) and the local Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City Schools that ensures that as many students as possible get to experience new clothing for the school year.
School personnel play an integral role in identifying students who are in need of assistance and arrange for them to go on a field trip to select clothing items at the Mariam C. Schramm Clothing Room.
Volunteers make this experience truly special by creating a one-on-one interaction with each student, helping them choose clothing items that not only provide warmth and comfort but also boost their confidence.
- The smiles on the students’ faces as they left with their newfound treasures are always a testament to the impact of this initiative. Watch a video of the shopping/volunteer experience.
ππ€ If you have a business or group that would like to volunteer you can call their office 704.652.0669.
The JCL was founded in 1930 and the women of the league served soup and crackers to students on their way home from school. Since that time, the league has changed its focus to clothing students in need and that has been their main project for 50 years! The Clothing Room provides brand-new clothes and necessary hygiene products to more than 1,000 students each year.
- Recently, JCL held a special ribbon cutting to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its Mariam C. Schramm Clothing Room, which has been in its current location, in the Locke Mill Plaza, since May 2009.
π Interested in learning more about league membership and volunteering? A new JCL member social will be held on Tuesday, Sept 19th from 6-7pm at the JCL offices.
π² Save the Date for their popular Bunco (a dice game) event on Nov 2nd.
