Ohio Woman Convicted of Attempted Murder After Firing Into House Party Over Estranged Husband Dispute

CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, OHIO — An Ohio woman angry over her estranged husband socializing with her new boyfriend has been convicted of attempted murder after prosecutors say she opened fire on a house party, striking a guest who had nothing to do with the dispute.

Shooting Fueled by Personal Dispute at New Year’s Party

Prosecutors said Olivia Clendenin became enraged after seeing her estranged husband and her new boyfriend spending time together at a New Year’s Eve house party in Clearcreek Township. Authorities said Clendenin was also present at the gathering but left angrily before returning hours later.

Investigators say she drove back to the home around 5 a.m., pulled into the front yard, and fired multiple gunshots toward the residence while still inside the vehicle.

Innocent Guest Shot While Standing on Porch

One of the bullets struck a 29-year-old man who was standing on the front porch at the time. Prosecutors said the victim was not involved in the dispute and was simply attending the party. He suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and required emergency medical care.

A Clearcreek Township police sergeant later told reporters that Clendenin “drove through the front yard and fired shots toward the house,” putting multiple people at risk inside and outside the home.

Jury Returns Guilty Verdict on Multiple Charges

A Warren County jury found Clendenin guilty last week on four felony charges, including attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, and discharging a firearm into a residence. Prosecutors argued that firing from a moving vehicle toward an occupied home showed clear intent to cause deadly harm.

According to the grand jury report, Clendenin was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the shooting, further escalating the danger of her actions.

Crash and Arrest Following the Shooting

After the gunfire, Clendenin fled the scene in her mother’s 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to police. Authorities said she crashed the vehicle shortly afterward, striking both a guardrail and a utility pole while navigating a curve.

Clearcreek Township police arrested her at the crash site. She later pleaded not guilty and was released on bail, placed on electronic home detention, and ordered to have no contact with witnesses involved in the case.

Sentencing Still Pending

Court records show that a sentencing date has not yet been scheduled in Clendenin’s online case file. She remains under court supervision as she awaits formal sentencing on the attempted murder conviction and related charges.

If convicted sentences are imposed consecutively, Clendenin could face significant prison time under Ohio law.
