Violent Supercell Near Cundiff and Bowie Texas Produces Very Large Hail and Multiple Tornadoes Saturday Evening

NORTH TEXAS — A powerful and fully-organized supercell thunderstorm near Cundiff and Bowie, Texas is producing very large hail and has already spawned multiple tornadoes Saturday evening, April 25, 2026, as the storm maintains a very intense mesocyclone and tracks through north-central Texas toward the Fort Worth metro region.

A Fully-Formed and Intensifying Storm

This supercell has been sustaining a very intense mesocyclone for an extended period, confirming it as a mature and dangerous long-track storm. The environment downstream of this cell is becoming increasingly favorable for continued severe hail production and additional tornadoes as the low-level jet strengthens through the evening.

While atmospheric inhibition is increasing across the broader region, forecasters note this fully-formed and already-active cell will not be significantly affected by that inhibition for at least the next one to two hours — meaning the threat will continue well into the evening.

Radar Signature Confirms Extreme Intensity

The radar valid at 7:58 PM CDT Saturday shows the storm core near Bowie and Runaway Bay with an intense reflectivity signature featuring deep reds and purples — consistent with a large-hail-producing supercell with a tight and well-defined rotation. The white arrow on the radar marks the forward track of the storm as it pushes southeast toward the Reno, Decatur, and Fort Worth corridor.

STP values displayed on the radar confirm a highly tornado-favorable environment directly in the storm’s path.

Primary Threats Continuing This Evening

  • Very large hail — ongoing and expected to continue for at least one to two more hours
  • Additional tornadoes — environment becoming more favorable as the low-level jet increases
  • Damaging winds — embedded within the supercell’s forward flank and rear flank downdraft

Communities in the Storm’s Path

The storm is currently impacting areas near Bowie, Runaway Bay, and Cundiff and is tracking southeast toward Reno, Decatur, Saginaw, and the broader Fort Worth metropolitan area. Residents across Jack, Wise, and Parker counties and communities along the storm’s projected path should be sheltered now and monitoring for tornado warnings.

Do not wait — this storm has already produced tornadoes tonight and the threat is not over.
