RICHWOOD, OHIO — A 35-year-old Ohio woman was arrested Friday morning after police say she physically assaulted her daughter with a belt during a dispute over missing money, leaving the child with visible injuries, according to authorities.

Mahogany Monae Sanders was taken into custody after Richwood Police responded to a reported disturbance at a residence on Michelle Court around 8:30 a.m. Officers say the incident stemmed from a financial argument involving $1,600 the mother believed her daughter had taken.

Police Say Child Suffered Visible Injuries

According to an affidavit, Sanders admitted to striking her daughter with a belt after accusing the girl of stealing the money. When officers arrived at the home, they observed that the child had a black eye and noticeable bruising on her arm and shoulder. Police documented the injuries and determined they were consistent with physical abuse, leading to Sanders’ arrest at the scene.

Child Told Officers She Was Prevented From Going to School

Investigators said the child also informed officers that her mother refused to allow her to attend school that day following the incident. Authorities did not immediately release the child’s age but confirmed she is a juvenile. The situation raised additional concerns for officers responding to the call, prompting further involvement from child welfare services.

Mother Faces Cruelty to Juveniles Charge

Sanders was charged with Cruelty to Juveniles, a serious offense under Ohio law that can carry significant penalties if convicted.
