This Weekend, Washington D.C. Flips to Summer as Highs Surge From 64 to 90 Degrees With Near-80 Temperatures Expected for Much of the Rest of May

WASHINGTON D.C. — After running more than 2 degrees below average through the first third of May, Washington D.C. is about to flip the switch to summer. Temperatures at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport are forecast to surge dramatically beginning this weekend, with highs averaging near or above 80 degrees for much of the rest of the month.

Summer Pattern Takes Hold Through Late May

Beginning Saturday May 16 at 82 degrees, temperatures climb rapidly into the upper 80s and touch 90 degrees by Tuesday May 19 — the kind of heat more typical of late June than mid-May. The pattern is expected to keep highs near or above 80 for much of the remainder of the month.
